作为小说，一个吸引眼球的名字可能给书的销量带来翻天覆地的变化，所以有人把《水浒传》翻译成“3 woman and 105 man”。翻译回中文大概是“三个女人和一百零五个男人的故事”。
从学术角度讲，这种翻译荒唐之极，但是从商业的角度讲，这是最现实的翻译方法。“Journey to the West”是美国记者 埃德加·斯诺 的作品，中文名《西行漫记》。
以前曾经有人问过，中国古典名著的翻译方法，也有人问过“降龙十八掌”怎么翻译到英语当中。其实学术上最可取的翻译方法就是音译。《西游记》完全可以翻译为“Xiyouji”。
